Damn You, Papa Smarps
March 27, 2008
This is crazy! You mean as a kid who grew up in the 80’s, like me, and watched those Saturday Morning Cartoons were duped into watching shows that have subliminal messages?
So you think it’s better to be upfront and clear to kids like those in-your-face cartoons of the Simpsons, Boondocks, South Park, and Family Guy?
Damn! It just hit me till now, you know.
Just take a crack at this..
The 10 Most Insane, Child-Warping Moments of ’80s Cartoons
By Todd Ciolek
The ‘80s were supposed to be a harmless time for toys and the cartoons that sold them. Whether shilling lines of action figures or promoting characters who would eventually be action figures, these shows were designed to eat up kids’ attention in 30-minute blocks while ham-handedly promoting good citizenship and hygiene. In spite of this, cartoons sometimes snuck in certain moments that were clearly designed to break impressionable minds and pervert the youth of America. In the interests of helping a generation get through long-stewing cartoon-related stress disorders, we’re confronting the worst things the ‘80s ever did to us.

They say that empty barrels make the most noise. Probably true. But as long as these barrels are pretty, you might as well make use of them.
In the case of Janina San Miguel winning Bb Pilipinas-World, I’ll blame society on this one. How they get through to the top and still run away with the gold is just beyond me.
She was probably just nervous. You notice how she uses “p” in place of “f” in her sentences? Yeah, that’s just being nervous.
Let me see you try answering the question “What role did your family play to you as candidate to Binibining Pilinas?” in front of thousands of eyes while smiling and half-naked. Let’s see if you don’t rattle your ass to death. It’s damn hard. I know from personal experience (hehehe).
Well, anyhoo, good luck to Janina San Miguel for winning the Bb Pilipinas-World 2008. I don’t know you, but it’ll be fun watching you compete against the rest of the world.
UST alumna wins Bb. Pilipinas crown
By Ed H. Pangilinan, Contributor
As expected, the results of the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant Saturday night did not please everyone.
The annual pageant continues to draw more rant than raves, especially from pageant fans, because of the controversial and often mediocre winners year after year.
This year was no different. During the announcement of winners, the crowd at the Araneta Coliseum cheered for a minute, then jeered after host Paolo Bediones completed reading the names of the winners.
Jennifer Barrientos, from San Mateo, Rizal, was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe and will represent the country in the next Miss Universe pageant which will be hosted by Vietnam. She is an alumna of University of Santo Tomas, where she earned a degree in tourism.
Patricia Fernandez, 22, was named Bb. Pilipinas-International. When asked who she admires the most, she said “Mother Teresa.” And then she made a gaffe: “I believe all of us should do her.” The audience went wild and booed.
Realizing her mistake, she corrected herself and added, “I mean, all of us should do what she does.” It was unclear whether she knew Mother Teresa died in 1997.
Fernandez will be the country’s representative to the Miss International, which will be held in Japan in November.
Pageant neophyte Janina San Miguel emerged as Bb. Pilipinas-World.
Few probably thought the 17-year-old mestiza from the University of the East would end up wearing the crown after she also embarrassed herself during the question and answer portion. She mumbled a lot and kept apologizing to everyone and reasoning that it was her first time to join a pageant. She finally spoke in Filipino to finish off her tough initiation. Earlier in the proceedings, San Miguel won Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown.
