Beware of FILIPINOS
April 9, 2008
In a perfect world, Singapore seems to be the best place to live in. A stable economy and a government that really works.
But we don’t live in a perfect world. That’s is why remarks such as this will often find its way into the open:
Hi all Minority Singaporeans,
These days there are lot of filipinos in Singapore, occupying sales jobs, factory jobs, IT jobs etc etc., How come the Govt allow Filipinos to take up the sales jobs that a local singaporean can easily do? Its like whole philipines is shifting to Singapore. These fugging filipino arseholes are not only taking our jobs, but they will bully us in future. We have to worry about our children future. If this trend continues, we people will be left out and the standard of these foriengner arseholes life will be better than ours. Pls keep this in mind and never vote for this Govt again. We have to blame the local chinky baaastards also for recruiting filipinos instead of locals.

If you ask me, I think this is a pretty fair expression of one’s right to say whatever he wants to. It may have come from hatred or from an actual fact, but still, this Samurai69 has all the rights in the world to say every word he meant to.
But if there’s one thing that this particular forum pointed out, is that the main reason why Filipinos are more employable in Singapore is our good command of the English language (both written and spoken).
Eventhough that this is a classic racist remark, it’s all sticks and stones to me.

you, of course, do have a right to air out your opinions. however, i think that you should only be threatened by the influx of filipino skilled workers if you do not have the talent and capabilities to compete with them. insecurity should be conquered with self-improvement

Aside from good command of English, Filipinos are friendlier and more accommodating than locals. Most locals are rude, arrogant and disrespectful to customers. Just look at Lucky Plaza and Sim Lim, a lot of establishments there behave like crooks in cheating their customers. I just don’t know why this behavior is not discourage in Singapore. This is why I never shop at those places. Who in their right mind would like to employ a staff that chase away customers from their business? I believe if we had more friendlier Asians working in business establishments here, Singapore would attract more tourist and earn more money.

Of all the cultures in the world, I believe that Filipinos have learned the process of globalization through the school of hard knocks. Living here in America, it is usually Filipinos that other Americans say are the friendliest and easiest to get along with. Our collective history of respect for several cultures within the Filipino diaspora is probably what gives the mental and physical edge that other nation/culture collections cannot compete with. Diversity is accepted, to a higher degree than other cultures. I believe this was a survival mechanism that islanders honed during the many centuries of trade with countries.
Why minority Singaporeans hate is just considered competition, IMHO. Go ahead Samurai69, dish out the dirt to your hearts content. Filipinos across the world can endure it. We can adapt and overcome because we are always FAITHFUL in the triumph of better human traits within you.
Mah bad, I can’t speak for all the Filipinos in the world, just me. hahaha.
