On July 8, 2008, this article in Singapore’s STOMP MyPaper has been published because of a “discriminating” job ad.

It says:

When technical consultant, Mr Chester Cheng, saw the online advertisement for a hotel sales executive, he was upset.

The clause, “Filipinos need not apply”, made him see red.

He said: “Being a Filipino, I find this very offensive and discriminating.

And goes on and on to say such thing.

This got posted in a Pinoy Yahoo!Group and drew a lot of sympathy.

I may be just insensitive about it, but hell, I don’t get.

Could it be that we, Filipinos in general, be enjoying too much freedom that in everything that offends us will make us raise our eyebrows and take up in arms to defend our rights.

But before you do.. have you ever bothered to ask “Why?”

Here are some possible reasons.

Case1:
Could it be an oversight? You know that in Singapore, Filipinos have better command in the English language as compared to the locals. And the job agency who posted the ad could have meant something else like “Singaporeans and Permanent Residents only”.

You see, they don’t speak US-English here. They speak UK-English. You catch no ball? Mate?

Case2:
You’re in Singapore, brah! The ethnicities of the people who live here are either Chinese, Malay, and Indians.

So jobs like the one posted could have meant “For locals only, foreigners need not take the job from us locals.”

Case3:
Could have been really a requirement not to take Filipinos. That plain and simple.

If they’re not looking for Filipinos, wouldn’t you rather have been notified beforehand?

Maybe if the job ad was for a flyweight boxer and it says “No Filipinos”, then go be mad about that.

I could go on and on about this, but it’s just that simple.

In any case, I really don’t see any problem about it. Yes, it did say that “Filipinos need not apply.” But if you are indeed a Filipino looking for a job in a foreign land and would like to get by from the hardships back home.. why would you let this stop you from getting a job?

By the way.. WELCOME TO SINGAPORE, BRAH!

Gotham Knight

July 4, 2008

The Dark Knight is coming! The Dark Knight is coming! And Joker looks darker than ever. So if you can’t wait for the movie, here’s the new anime that links the story lines. It’s the “Batman: Gotham Knight.”

Synopsis: Anime-inspired direct-to-DVD anthology film. Comprised of six short stories, from diverse creators, including Academy Award-nominated Josh Olsen (A History of Violence), Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer, and comics scribe Brian Azzarello. It’s planned for a release window of two to four weeks prior to the release of The Dark Knight, and would bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Sirit?!?

It’s the all-new TFA Megatron (Leader, 2008 ).

Along with Bulkhead (Leader, 2008 ), you can score these Transformer figures in any toy stores in Singapore for about $99.00.

Hopefully, the Ultra Magnus (Leader) and Optimus Prime (Supreme) will soon be available.

Suped Up Season Ender

July 3, 2008

Now this is what I call an season ender called A Bridge Too Close.

A Bridge Too Close (Part 1)

A Bridge Too Close (Part 2)

Now why is this the coolest episode(s) I’ve watched in the TFA so far? Here’s why:

  • Starscream reveals 5 new clones (the Coward, the Sycophant, the Egomaniac, the Liar, and the Female). You’ve gotta love the fact that the clones are in the G1 Decepticon fighter planes deco of Skywarp, Sun Storm, Thundercracker, and Ramjet). The female Starscream is the surprise element here. What aspect of Starscream did she came from?
  • The Decepticon insignias are branded on bots with a branding iron, as for cows. Unlike in G1 where it sticks on like badges.
  • John Moschitta (Blurr’s original voice actor in G1) reprises his role in TFA. Yes, Moschitta. The Micro Machine guy.
  • Starscream has his own army other than the Combaticons
  • Megatron (who’s now an attack helicopter instead of a gun or a tank) is more maniacal than ever even without the husky voice.
  • Decepticons are shown way bigger than the Autobots, which makes you think that they are really warriors rather than service bots.
  • OMEGA SUPREME IS IN THIS EPISODE!
  • OMEGA SUPREME BLASTS THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF LUGNUT!
  • Sari is a robot?!? I’m not a Sari fan but hey, this is getting more interesting.

Coooooool!!!
